Joel Cope, Associate
Joel Cope has over 21 years of experience in the practice of law with the vast majority of that experience gained in the area of insurance defense.
A native of Atlanta, Mr. Cope returned after his graduation from the Walter F. George School of Law of Mercer University in 1996 and began practicing law with a commercial litigation practice in Atlanta. Since that time, he has worked for outside law firms practicing in the area of liability defense and Workers’ Compensation defense as well as being employed as staff counsel for major insurance companies.
He is an experienced trial lawyer who has tried cases to a jury in Georgia Courts as well as trying hundreds of cases before Magistrate Court and/or administrative law judges. He has represented individuals, corporate defendants, non-profit organizations, insurance carriers, apartment complexes, and healthcare service providers.
He joined Mabry & McClelland, LLP, in June 2017. His practice is primarily concentrated in the areas of personal injury defense, premises liability, products liability defense, subrogation and insurance coverage.
Mr. Cope is admitted to practice in the State Courts of Georgia, the Court of Appeals of Georgia, the Georgia Supreme Court, and the Middle and Northern District Courts of Georgia. He is an active member of the State Bar of Georgia and the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association (GDLA).
In addition to his legal work, Mr. Cope is active in the larger community. He serves as president of the Mableton Improvement Coalition, a civic group based in Mableton which works on matters ranging from issues forums to zonings, and serves as well as the president of the Mableton Community Fund. He was appointed by his County Commissioner to serve on the Neighborhood Safety Commission, a position wherein he works with the Cobb County public safety community and citizens, and works as its secretary and as a moderator of some of its public education forums. He sits on the Advisory Board for Wellstar Cobb Hospital. He attends Peachtree Presbyterian Church where he serves on the Missions Committee.
